Anime Animals!

Everybody loves animals, right?

Well this week I'm going to talk about a few of those cute, absolutely adorable animals that appear in mostly every anime! Here's a list of a few:
-Cowboy Bebop
-Naruto
-Fruit's Basket
-Hetalia
-Kuroshitsuji
-Soul Eater
-Popotan

The most popular animals to appear are cats, dogs, and rabbits.
Alot of times, the animals can talk, have special powers, or are actually part human! (meaning they can turn into a human). But in other cases, they are just there to look stinking adorable! <3

But, that's all I have for this week!

NatsuCon 2011

Ahh! I have a convention coming up in August that I'm so excited about!

It's NatsuCon 2011, and it's in Collinsville, Illinois. I CANNOT wait!
I get to see all the friends I made last year and I'm looking forward to all the new friends I will be making! I'm also excited to get the costumes I'm making done.

So far some of the main events I'm looking forward to are the date auction, the masked ball, DEFINITELY the rave, the swimsuit contest, and lots and lots of panels. It's going to be so much fun!

But kind of expensive..oh well.
Oh! And they already have a few guests: The Nerdfit Network and Samurai Dan. The Nerdfit Network is made up of these two hilarious guys that were at NatsuCon last year, so I'm definitely looking forward to them this year. Samurai Dan was a Kawa Kon and he was pretty awesome, so I'm looking forward to him as well =D

As far as cosplays go, here's the lineup:
Friday-
Temari, fourth outfit
Lady Gaga, masked ball

Saturday-
Ukraine from Hetalia
Rave Girl, for, well, the rave

Sunday-
Temari, fourth outfit

My best friend Frances, who goes to all the conventions with me, is also coming, so it's going to be alot of fun!

But that's all for now. I'm done geeking out. Haha.

Anime Stereotypes

I gave up on the challenge. No more.

So, this week, I've decided to talk about the stereotypical characters often seen in anime.
In every anime, there's always characters that share.. specific characteristics with characters from other animes. For example, there's always the:
Pervert and the accidental pervert (meaning, he's the one who accidentally walks into the girls locker room)
The random people who are actually Asian but never get mentioned in the show
The bit**y princess-like girl
The arrogant, tall, quiet guys
The spazzy fan girls
The klutzy guys
The twins
The yaoi fan girls
The angsty guy
The girl who is secretly crazy
The weird girl who has supernatural powers
The crossdresser
The spazzy girl everybody hates
The girl who is part cat
Oh, and every anime has a cat. Heh, I guess Japan just really loves cats =)

The list is endless! But I know for a fact there's almost all of these stereotypes in every anime I watch, and it leads to an interesting show. Kuroshitsuji has the pervert, the crossdresser, the weird girl who has supernatural powers, the spazzy girl everyone hates, the angsty guy, the girl who is secretly crazy, the twins, and the arrogant, tall, dark guy, cats. Oh! And the foreigners too.
It's also fun to go through anime's and find all these stereotypes. They also help people decide what their favorite characters are (like myself, haha).
Now I feel the need to post a picture of Grell =O
But I'm not going to.
That's all for now!

Anime Challenge Day 2

Day Two Of The Anime Challenge-Next Cosplay

I have two cosplays planned for a next convention
The top picture is Ukraine from Hetalia, and the bottom one is Temari from Naruto (the girl..the girl on the right). I'm considering doing a third cosplay, depending on how my money supply is when it get closer to the convention. For Ukraine, I think I'm just going to buy the costume and wig, just because it'd be ALOT simpler. For Temari, I'm just going to make it all. I already have the leg covers, shoes, headband, and the fan, so everything else should be pretty simple. Yay for nerd stuff!

Until next week~

30 Day Anime Challenge

So, to break out of the boring way I've been posting blogs, I decided to bring something new-the 30 Day Anime Picture Challenge! Basically you have to post a new blog/picture everyday for 30 days to complete the challenge.

So, Day One is Very First Anime.
Sailor Moon!
I started watching this anime when I was five years old. Not just that either, I was OBSESSED with the show. I use to try to dress up like the girls from the show because I loved them alot! I guess you could say this was my first cosplay in a way too. Haha.

Shoujo Beat

Hey~! KandiRaver here, giving my nerd thoughts on the world of anime!

This week I'm going to tell you about another magazine I read that has to do with anime. The last one, Shonen Jump, was geared towards..manlier audiences. But this one is especially for the girls! Yay!
It's called Shojo Beat.
Okay, so there's the cover...and yes, I picked it just because I'm a fangirl of Zero from Vampire Knight.
(Pst, that's who's on the cover!)

Shoujo showcases girly, romantic anime's like Vampire Knight, Ouran High School Host Club, Fruit's Basket, and Sailor Moon (I have seen all of those and they are fantastic~!)
But that's basically all it is. Usually the magazine has random manga in it from all these different shows that are very entertaining to read.
Sometimes, the magazine will be all about one anime, like Vampire Knight, and that's all the magazine will be about! I love it!

But anyway, that's all I really have for today. See you next week!~♥

Character Of The Week

Hey! KandiRaver here yet again, giving my nerd thoughts on the world of anime!

It's once again time for character of the week, so this week it's America from Axis
Powers: Hetalia!

And yes, I purposely picked America because the sterotype he plays is sooo
funny!

Here's some facts about America:
Name- Arthur
Date Of Birth- July 4th, 1776

In Hetalia, America is usually seen taking control of the allie meetings and always
appointing himself as the hero..because that's really what America does in
real life. XD He is usually seen with a hamburger and milkshake in his hand, but
somehow he stays in remarkable shape for all the artery clogging burgers he eats.
He has a hate/love relationship with England ever since the revolutionary war.

America is descended from England's family.

See ya next week!

Anime Of The Week

Hey! KandiRaver here, giving my nerd thoughts on the world of anime!

It's once again time for anime of the week again, so this week I'll be talking about..
Axis Powers: Hetalia!

Hetalia is set in the time period of WWII, and includes all the countries involved..only one thing though. The countries are all made into stereotypical people. I'm not going to list all the countries, but here are a few of the main ones:
Italy
Germany
Japan
America
England
France
China
Russia
These are the main characters throughout the series, although they are many many more countries I did not mention. There's no main point to the series, because it's basically just telling history in a funny, sarcastic, smart-a** way. Oh! There's another important character I left out..
Chibitalia!! Chibitalia is like, a mini series inside Hetalia, about Italy growing up and turning into a big..boy..country..thing. For example, it goes through the Renaissance, and how Austria use to own Italy. Soo..that's about all to Hetalia. Oh! And I forgot to mention the country I'm going to be cosplaying from this show..
Ukraine!

Okay, that's all for now though. See ya next week!

Something Different

Hey, KandiRaver here giving my nerds thoughts on the world of anime!

So, lately I've had an obsession with a movie called Repo! The Genetic Opera.
It's not anime, but there's comics in it, soo it's close enough. Haha.

Anyway, here's the movie cover.

Basically, it's a rock opera musical gorey thing, and it's fantastic!
By the end you'll be saying "Bravi!"

The movie is focused around a company called GeneCo, ran by Rotti Largo. GeneCo is an organ company, where you can buy any parts you want and make payments on them. But if you miss a payment, they send out the Repo Man. Dun dun dun! He will reposess the parts you haven't payed for. Believe me, you don't wanna be caught by the Repo man.
Since it is a musical, there's songs involved too. The only dialouge in the movie is singing. I think there's literally only two phrases said that isn't in song. You can find every song in the musical on youtube. Here's the list of songs:
 SYNOPSIS
• Depraved Heart Murder at Sanitarium Square
Genetic Repo Man
Crucifixus
Things You See in a Graveyard
21st Century Cure
Shilo Wakes
Infected
Bravi!
Legal Assassin
Lungs And Livers
Mark It Up
• Tao of Mag
Things You See in a Graveyard (Part 2)
Limo Ride
Thankless Job
Genterns
Largo's Little Helpers
Luigi, Pavi, Amber Harass Mag

Everyone's A Composer
Come Back
What Chance Has A 17 Year Old Girl

Nathan Discovers Rotti's Plan

Genetic Emancipation
Epitaph
Needle Through a Bug
• OTHER SONGS:
Can't Get It Up If the Girl's Breathing?
Rotti's Chapel Sermon
Come Up And Try My New Parts

Yes, there is violence, yes, there is alot of cussing, yes, there is sexual innuendos.
But you'll love it! My favorite songs are Zydrate Anatomy and Chromaggia.
Oh! And I almost forgot the most important part..the characters!
Here are the main characters:
Shilo Wallace
Rotti Largo
Nathan Wallace
Blind Mag
Amber Sweet
Luigi Largo
Pavi Largo
Graverobber! <3
Those are the main characters. But that's basically all there is to Repo! I love it!
Oh, and if you watch the movie "Repo Men", they stole their movie idea from this movie, cause they suck.

But anyway, that's all for now. See ya next week!

Kawa Kon 2011: Awesome!!

Hey! KandiRaver here, giving my nerd thoughts on the world of anime!
So, I, along with Frances Hebrona and Amanda Dobbs, recently attended an anime convention in St. Louis, Missouri. The theme of the convention this year was 'Taking It To The Streets'. My opinion on it?
Soo much fun!

The picture to the left is of a random person cosplaying Sasuke, a girl cosplaying Naruto, me as Sai, Frances as Konan, and Amanda in the back cosplaying Kakashi. All characters from Naruto. The picture to the right is of me in my Sai costume.
Friday night we go to the hotel around 7 o'clock. The only event we went to that night was the Victorian Kuroshitsuji Ball.
That's us before the ball.

Saturday we roamed around and took LOTS of pictures of other cosplayers, some that were absolutely fantastic. Here's some of my favorite ones:

Grell Sutcliffe

Russia and France from Hetalia
We didn't really get to go to any panels, because they were all PACKED. Saturday night though, we attended the rave and sang kareoke. Both were pretty fun =D
The weekend got over waaaay too fast though!
But it was fun =D

Kawa Kon 2011

Hey! KandiRaver here, giving my nerd thoughts on the world of anime!

Well, today is Kawa Kon!! I’m soo excited. Like, you have no idea.
I’m currently sitting in school and the day is going soo slow >_<
But anyway, here’s my costume line up for the weekend:

Friday-Sexy No Jutsu Sai from Naruto Shippuden
Saturday- Sai from Naruto Shippuden
Sunday- Temari from Naruto (if we stay)

I will also have my two friends Amanda and Frances with me. They’re cosplaying Konan and Snj Kakashi, both from Naruto XD
I’m hoping there will be a Naruto, Sakura, Sasuke, and a man Kakashi there so I can take awkward and funny pictures with them XD

We won’t be there until after five tonight, so some of the events we will be attending tonight are the Kuroshitsuji Victorian Ball (I love Kuro! ^_^) and the Repo! The Genetic Opera showing, cause Repo is fantastic XD
Saturday we’ll be going to a lot of the panels and definitely the rave!
And Sunday I’m not sure how long we’ll be there.

So yeah, it’s gonna be friggin awesome XD
Showing a little love from Sai <3
See ya next week!

Anime Conventions

Hey! KandiRaver here, giving my nerd thoughts on the world of anime!

This week, I will be telling you about anime conventions.
What is an anime convention you ask?
"An anime convention is an event or gathering with a primary focus on anime, manga, and Japanese culture."
In an anime convention, one of the most popular things is cosplaying. You'll almost never find an anime convention where people aren't in cosplay.
There are many things to do at anime conventions too, such as panels, workshops, social events, and many others.
An anime convention coming up that I will be attending is Kawa Kon 2011, in St. Louis, Missouri.

I attened Kawa Kon 2010 last year, and it was soo much fun! Hopefully this year will be even better.
Some of the main events I'm looking forward to is the Victorian ball friday night, the rave saturday night, and multiple panels and a masquerade!
Oh! Most conventions take place in a hotel too, and this year's is the Crowne Plaza hotel. It is suuuuuper nice. Plus I love hotel rooms =3
But yeah, basically that's all there is to anime conventions. It's a big social gathering for nerds XD

..see ya next week!

Cosplay

Hey! KandiRaver here, giving my nerd thoughts on the world of anime!

So, there's this thing called cosplay, where you dress up like characters from an anime, video game, movie, etc. That's about all there is to it.
So i figured I'd mention who I cosplay =D

The first person I cosplay is Sai from Naruto Shippuden!
Sai is my FAVORITE character from the show. He's really cool but socially awkward. Reaaaally socially awkward. He's often seen reading a book on how to make friends. Sai is also an artist, and uses that talent in battle to make his drawings come to life and attack. He also wears a belly shirt. XD

The second person I cosplay is Temari, also from Naruto.

Temari is my favorite girl from the show. She's one of the three Sand Siblings, sister to Gaara and Kankuro. She uses that giant fan right there as a weapon, and she's pretty kick-a**! She's my favorite person to cosplay because I get to carry around a giant paper fan XD

I'm going to be cosplaying both of these characters at an upcoming anime convention (I'll explain what that is later). With Sai, I'm being a girl version of him called 'Sexy No Jutsu'.
But anyway, that's all for now. See ya next week~!

Shonen Jump

Hey! KandiRaver here giving my nerd thoughts on the world of anime!

So, I've recently discovered a magazine for guys that is all about anime, manga, etc. It's fantastic! I figured I'd blog about it this week.
That's basically what the cover looks like. This specific one ^ is from January 2008. Shonen Jump likes to include Naruto alot, seeing that it's one of the most popular anime's/manga's in the world. It also includes lots of other popular shows, like Death Note.
I like the magazine because I can geek out and not feel weird about it, because most of the stuff in it is all fan feedback, and there's ALOT.
Like I said before, the magazine is mostly geared towards guys. There's a magazine almost exactly like it called "Shojo Beat", but it's geared towards female readers and is more about girlier animes, like Vampire Knight and Ouran High School Host Club.
But anyway..that's about all I have to say about Shonen Jump. I'm a fan. Buy it. Read it. Good stuff.

See ya next week!

Anime Of The Week

Hey! KandiRaver here, giving my nerd thoughts on anime!

This week I've been geeking out ALOT about the anime 'Naruto'. I've gotta say, it's probably my favorite show out of all of them.
So, of course, the anime of the week is...Naruto!
Epic picture right there.

Okay, so basically the show is based around that dude in orange up there. That's Naruto. He has a dream: to become the greatest hokage! The hokage is the strongest ninja of the village and leads them.
Naruto is on a team with two other kids. Sakura Haruno, the schizophrenic annoying one, and Sasuke Uchiha, the hottie emo kid with a big ego. The are led by their sensei (teacher), Kakashi, a laid-back porn loving mysterious kick-a** lazy guy. They are team 7, or Team Kakashi.
The other four other teams that are mostly focused on is Team Guy, which includes Tenten, a weapon loving chick, Neji, a complete a-hole, and Rock Lee, an adorable enthusiatic guy with a bowl cut. They are led by Gai-sensei. Team Guy is below.

The next team is Team 8. Team 8 includes Kiba, an arrogant dog lover and his puppy Akamaru, Hinata, an extremely shy girl, and Shino, the quiet guy who uses bugs as his weapon. They are led by Kurenai, a mysterious woman who can do cool stuff with illusions.

Team Asuma is the next team. In it is Shikamaru, a lazy but brilliant minded ninja, Ino, an annoying girl who has no powers whatsoever except mind control, and Choji, the fat guy. They are led by Asuma, a chain smoking gangster who has cool brass knuckle knives.

The last team is the Sand Siblings. They come from the village called Suna. The team consists of Temari, a crude but cool girl who uses a giant fan as her weapon, Kankuro, a guy who is constantly smiling and uses puppets to murder people, and Gaara, a psycho kid who uses sand to uh..destroy things.
There are many other characters to Naruto, but it would take FOREVER to name and describe them all.

But, that's basically the main plot to Naruto. There's also a part 2 type of thing to Naruto, called Naruto: Shippuden. The characters are all 2 years older in Shippuden, and the series is still ongoing.

But, that's all for now! See you next week!

Manga

Hey! KandiRaver here giving my nerd thoughts on the world of anime!

It's been a while since my last post, 'Character of the Week'.
This week I'm going to be talking about manga, and what it is.

Manga-  a Japanese comic book or graphic novel
So, basically manga is like an American comic book, but so much more cooler.

This first interesting point to manga is how it's read.
Instead of reading the book front to back, you actually start from the back and read to the front. It seems confusing to alot of people, but once you've read it a few times it's actually very easy.
The second interesting point to manga is the art.
The art is very detailed and always in black and white.
As seen in the picture above, you also read the manga from left to right.

Manga is important because all anime's are based off of the manga, though the show will usually be a little diffferent than the manga.
There's also another thing about manga..fan service! (Sounds awkward, but I love it!)
Basically it's where the author of the manga draws pictures that fangirls will go crazy over, like the one below.

*screams*

Okay, but that's all for now! See ya next week!

Character Of The Week

Hey! KandiRaver here, giving my nerd thoughts on the world of anime!

My last post was basically all about the show Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler), since I chose it as the anime of the week. This post is 'Character Of The Week', where I'll choose a specific character from the previously talked about show and tell all about them. Like Anime of the Week posts, these will reoccur every few weeks.

The character I chose for this week is...

Undertaker!! (from Black Butler)

Undertaker is a very eccentric man, as most would say. He was once a legendary shinigami, a god of death, but is now retired and works as an undertaker..and LOVES it.
Instead of making people pay in money for their loved one's funeral expenses, he makes them tell him a good joke for a good laugh.
His laugh http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APzHbO8iVw4
and smile
are actually the two things most people know him by. (Doesn't this picture just make you smile? XD)

Another cool thing about Undertaker is his awesomely awesome death scythe.

While a shinigami, he used this to collect souls and such.

Here are a few more random facts about Undertaker:
-He is often seen eating bone shaped dog biscuits and driking tea from a beaker
-Him and Grell Sutcliffe are totally bff's

Anime of the Week

Hey! KandiRaver here, giving my nerdy thoughts on the world of anime!

In last week's post I described what anime is, so this week I will be telling you about a specific anime show. (I will be doing this every few weeks with a different show)
The show I chose for this week is...
Kuroshitsuji! (otherwise known as Black Butler)

The show follows Ceil Phantomhive, an angsty 12 year old boy, and his butler, Sebastian Michaelis.

Ceil actually died with his parents sometime before in a house fire, but was able to come back to life after making a deal with Sebastian, who is actually a demon: Ciel comes back to life and Sebastian serves as his butler, but once Ciel dies Sebastian gets his soul.
The setting is in London, England, in the late 1800's during the reign of Queen Victoria. Throughout the show, Ciel and Sebastian work for the queen to stop certain crimes. Some of the crimes actually happened in real life, such as Jack the Ripper and the opium 'war'.
Some other main characters in the show are:
-Madame Red
-Grell Sutcliffe and William Spears
-Bard, Finnian, Maylin, and Tanaka (Ciel's other servants)
-Undertaker
-Lau

There are many more characters and such throughout the show, and I would tell you how it ends..but that would just ruin it.

Oh! And a few more things:
Here are some links to a few Black Butler..films, or whatever you want to call them.

Anime!

Hey! KandiRaver here, giving my nerd thoughts on the world of anime!
From now on, all blog posts will be about something related to anime, ranging from different shows to manga to specific characters.

So, first I'll explain what anime is.
Anime is a Japanese style of motion-picture animation, characterized by highly stylized, colorful art, futuristic settings, violence, and sexuality [definition from dictionary.com].
An example of anime is shown in the picture above, from the show Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler).

Anime's often have certain types of storylines and genres, and different kinds of characters. Some of my later post will go into more detail of these things, and other things that go along with anime, such as manga, video games, and cosplay.
